The second walk in this series starts from the other end of the Trail to the first; at Bakewell Station. And at nearly 10 miles, it will also be one of the longest.
The Trail ends just a short distance from the station. The route then heads south, passing close to the entrance to Haddon Hall. The historic house, with its wonderful cafe, is always worth a visit. But it’s worth checking the opening times as it’s become a favourite venue for film producers and is often closed for longish periods.
From here, the route passes along open fields and ancient tracks to reach the small village of Alport and the River Lathkill. The path then follows the river towards Lathkill Dale – one of the most picturesque spots in the White Peak – before turning north to Over Haddon.
The Lathkill Hotel, with its patio overlooking the valley, is a great place to stop and take refreshments. From here it’s a couple of miles back to Bakewell with its many cafes and pubs and the chance to sample some of its famous Bakewell tart (or pudding).
